Maybe some of these ideas will help make it easier for them and you.

Give your child a calendar with a marker so that they can keep track of time. Mark each day with one or two activities, such as arriving at camp, swimming, making new friends, learning to canoe, going to camp fires, and coming home. Have a smiley face on each day.
Before they go to camp, talk casually about their strong points and things they enjoy — how easily they make friends, how good they are at sports, how much they like to be with outdoors or how good they are at crafts.
Write a few letters to your kids and pack them into their suitcase or backpack. Let them know that you're glad they are experiencing new things and let them know that if they're having any problems, there are camp counselors around to help them.
